It’s My Birthday, I’ll Blog if I Want To….

Holy applesauce– I’m seventeen-years old. I’m finally the same age as most of the other Seniors at West, and it feels good. I enjoyed freaking people out these past few weeks by telling them that I was a sixteen-year old Senior, but it’s nice to be older. I can finally go to R-rated movies without hoping that the ticket person won’t card me (or if they do, they neglect to check the ID closely), and I can finally buy M-rated games alone. With Halo: Reach coming out tomorrow, there’s never been a better time to turn seventeen.

“With Halo: Reach coming out tomorrow, there’s never been a better time to turn seventeen.”

All of the non-gamers out there are probably wondering why the release of Halo: Reach is such a big deal to millions throughout the world. It’s “just a video game” after all, right?

Wrong. This is more than just another video game. The Halo franchise is one of the most popular franchises in video game history, and it’s arguably one of the biggest reasons why the Xbox and Xbox 360 game consoles from Microsoft have sold so well.

To explain why there is so much hype behind this game, let me relate it to something you non-gamers might understand: the release of Halo: Reach for Halo fans is like the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows to Harry Potter fans. It’s the last game in the Hal0 series produced by Bungie, the group behind the last four Halo games.

For Xbox 360 console owners, it’s a big freakin’ deal. For me, it’s a big freakin’ deal. I’ve been playing Halo franchise video games since the first game in the series, Halo, came out. When I play on Xbox Live, the main game I play is Halo 3. When my friends and I get together to play 360, we usually play Halo 3. The multiplayer gametype is amazing, and it never seems to get old. The campaign modes for Halo, Halo 2, Halo 3, and, in my opinion, Halo 3: ODST have all been amazing. I believe that Halo: Reach will continue this tradition of awesome, and also surpass it in a last hurrah that will leave Halo fans both speechless and content.

I’m excited for tomorrow. If the release was on a Saturday, I would probably be hanging out at GameStop until midnight will all of the other uber-nerds. But alas, the release is on a Tuesday, and I value my education more then a video game. So I will wait, until around 2 PM tomorrow afternoon, to speed down to GameStop, pick up my pre-ordered copy of Halo: Reach, and then speed home to play it.

In the midst of the video gaming, I might stop and make a quick video on my Kodak Zi8 about the day’s events. I might even bring it along with me to GameStop. Who knows. It’s an awesome camera though, and I’m excited to post some vlogs on the mostly empty twentyeleven project YouTube channel.

So that’s it. It’s been a great birthday, and I want to thank everyone who wished me a happy birthday. I love you guys, and all of your happy birthday wishes made my day. Well, that, and I heard my favorite song, “Be Like That” by Three Doors Down, on the radio this morning during my drive to school. 😀 You guys still rock though.

Remember to keep checkin’ the blog regularly for new posts from everyone, and also remember to comment! We love comments! Seriously! Exclamation points!
